Unknown Comforts
Oil Painting series
This body of work explores the notion of familiar, painful and regretful situations that often can become mistaken for stability, steadiness and security as a familiar pattern of behaviour develops that is easier to accept than to change. These works include subtle themes Debauchery and alcohol abuse that lead to the repetition of bad decisions, self-pity, and shame. The compositions are reminiscent and inspired by Baroque art through the use of contrasting textures of fabric and aesthetic of religion and Mythology. By merging the dreamlike 17th century Baroque art with modern day scenarios, Niki is able to explore the dark turmoil of human nature that always existed, whilst captivating the viewer with the sense of grandeur and dynamism.
